Caitlin & Jerram – Lynbrook farm, Western District, Victoria, Australia

Caitlin & Jerram got married on Caitlin’s parents farm in the Western District, Victoria. The day of posting this blog post is also their one year wedding anniversary, so congratulations to you guys, woooh!

Aside from just being an awesome day, this wedding was extra special as I met Caitlin and her welcoming family around 6 years ago when I first arrived in Australia – it was my first weekend in Australia and I was taken to a party on this very farm with a huge bonfire, multiple dogs, loads of sheep, home-brewed beer and some of the friendliest people I’d ever met.
So to be invited back to shoot Caitlyn’s wedding was a true honour.

Happy anniversary guys.

Hope you all enjoy the pictures

Victoria, Dan & Rowan – Folkestone, Kent UK [Family Photography]

So I am still loving Family Photography and recently while back in the UK got to hang out for the afternoon with Victoria, Dan & little Rowan (what a good name).

Victoria & Dan moved away from London a few years ago to Folkestone in Kent, a beautiful port town on the coast of South-East England, where they had Rowan over Easter. While spending the day together capturing these images, Victoria opened up to me about how she has been suffering from Postnatal Depression and after some reading of my own, it blows my mind how common an occurrence this is amongst new mothers all over the world.

Victoria vey kindly offered to write some words about the illness which I have shared below. Thank you Victoria & Dan (& Rowan) for letting me into your home and lives for the day.

“Like most new parents my husband Dan and I we were hit by the enormity of having a child when our son Rowan was born this Easter. At the risk of succumbing to a massive first time parent cliché, it was in the everyday moments that we felt closest as a family.

Through the seemingly unrelenting exhaustion our coping strategy was to go out on long walks to the sea near our home in Folkestone, Kent. For me getting out of the house and down to the coast became a lifeline. I’ve been suffering with Postnatal Depression and Anxiety since Rowan was born. The feelings gradually crept up on me, until was finally diagnosed when he was three and a half months old. Call it mother’s instinct but I knew something was wrong from the beginning. I was convinced I was doing a terrible job. That Rowan deserved better. Over time things had worsened to the point that that I was dragging myself through each day, just focusing on surviving. Suffering from PND and anxiety feels like the ultimate unwanted guest in new family life. Sucking what precious little energy is left out of already exhausted and bewildered new parents. Leaving me feeling hopeless and inadequate. At the darkest points it was almost impossible to see us as a ‘regular’ family because my anxieties feel so all consuming. When I started to seek help for the PND and Anxiety I began thinking that I wanted to savour this time in our lives. It hadn’t been easy but it was strangely significant.

We were really drawn to Nabeel’s relaxed style of photography. His approach was to go with what worked for us, which when you have a small baby makes all the difference. Outside of the confines of a studio we were able to shoot in a location that we loved. Since Rowan’s birth the Lower Leas Coastal Park in Folkestone has become something of a family favourite and this stretch of parkland overlooking the English seemed the perfect backdrop. Overall the shoot was incredibly laid back, which allowed Rowan’s personality to really shine through. Having Nabeel capture something as simple as a family walk felt affirmative, a little pat on the back to remind me that we can do this.”

Alicia & Glenn Wedding – Khayangan Estate, Uluwatu, Bali, Indonesia

Alicia & Glenn got married in the stunning Khayangan Estate in Uluwatu, Bali – just look at it!
It was my first time visiting Bali and I was taken aback by how nice all the locals were, it really is a special place. Alicia had planned the day down to a tee, including designing all of  the wedding stationary, which you can check out below.

One thing we did find out was that when it rains in Bali, it really rains, and even after being forced inside due to a number of downpours, it didnt dampen spirits and was still a really fun day.

Thank you Alicia & Glenn for the chance to shoot your day in such a great setting, it was an amazing experience, and thanks to all your friends and family for making me feel so welcome.

Lydia, Maryanne & Paul – Mornington, Melbourne [Family Photography]

Family Photography, when I used to think of what that meant I’d always think of those studio pictures that parents would have been talked into spending $$$/£££’s on for a handful of prints, often including a picture of the whole family stacked on top of each other all ‘smiling’ at the camera. so funny.

You know the ones, your parents may even have some of their own.

Well I’m hoping to offer some different Family Photography – I have begun offering a photo session for families that I approach in the same relaxed, easy style that I do my Weddings. Maryanne and Paul got in touch a little while ago as they have had an addition to their family, little Lydia. I went down to Mornington and hung out at their house for the morning, capturing them in the familiar, comfort of their own home after which we went to see the Grandparents who live round the corner, then a little walk down to the beach, finishing with some gardening back in their garden.

We had a really fun day, as expected Lydia stole the show – ‘those eyes’!

I’m free for bookings of family shoots & weddings both in London while I’m back there for all of July & August this year, followed by Melbourne from September onwards. I’ll be updating my website with the Family Portrait details/costs so keep an eye out for that, or you can just email me on with any questions or enquiries.

Thank y’all… now over to Lydia
